Graham "Skroo" Turner
Founder, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director

Flight Centre Travel Group

Graham “Skroo” Turner was raised on an apple orchard near the Queensland town of Stanthorpe and later trained as a veterinarian at the University of Queensland.

After graduating from university, he worked as a vet in western Victoria before moving to London in the early 1970s. In London, Skroo and friend Geoff “Spy” Lomas, both of whom were working as vets, took their first steps into the travel industry in 1973 when they invested the equivalent of $AU1300 in an ageing bus and started operating budget double-decker bus trips around Europe, North Africa and Asia.

After an eventful start, that company, Top Deck Travel, grew quickly and its success cemented Skroo's future in the travel industry. Top Deck Travel had grown into a thriving business with some 80 buses by the early 1980s, when Skroo returned to Australia and launched the Flight Centre leisure travel business.

His initial involvement with Top Deck ended in the mid 1980s, when he and his colleagues sold the business to management and devoted their full attention to Flight Centre, which had less than 30 shops at that time.

As the long serving chief executive officer and managing director of the public company that grew from the small band of Flight Centre shops, Skroo has since presided over a golden era of growth and prosperity for the Flight Centre Travel Group (FLT).

Today, FLT is an ASX 200 company and has a market capitalisation in the order of $4.5billion.

The company has more than 15000 employees in 25 countries, spanning Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Continental Europe, the United States, Middle East and Asia. Its corporate travel network, FCM, extends to more than 80 other countries through licensing arrangements with independent local operators.

FLT’s key travel brands include Flight Centre, Travel Associates, StudentUniverse, Liberty Travel, FCM, Corporate Traveller, Top Deck, Back-Roads Touring and Discova.

The company also holds a 47% interest in the Pedal Group, a rapidly expanding wholesale and retail network of bicycle businesses.

Skroo and his wife, Judith, have a strong commitment to conservation and the environment, both personally and through the Turner Family Foundation, which oversees the flagship research facility The Hidden Vale Wildlife Centre. He is a father of two (Matt and Jo) and a proud grandfather of five.

Chris Garlick has been CEO of Starbucks Australia since 2014. Chris’ appointment to the role was part
of the acquisition of Starbucks Australia by the Withers Group. It was also the beginning of the
transformation of the business, after it had failed to gain traction since the brand entered Australia
in 2000. Under Chris’ leadership, the transformation of Starbucks Australia has been characterised
by a deep understanding of the economics of the local market, as well as an unrelenting focus on
delighting customers with exceptional experiences in stores, consistent delivery of high quality
beverages, and the physical and digital engagement of customers in a way that has strong resonance
with target groups.

By the end of 2017, Starbucks Australia will have reached 34 stores; beyond that,
there is an exciting pipeline of future stores in locations exposed to high customer traffic flows.
Prior to Starbucks, Chris was General Manager of the Non-Food business at Coles Supermarkets for

contributor to the remarkable performance trajectory of that business during that period of time.
All of this was after Chris “grew up” within BP over 16 years.

Over his time in BP, Chris moved from a graduate intake in the very early stages of his career, to running the Retail business in Australia. Chris’ favourite activities include spending time with his family and long distance running.

In 2009 she and her co-founders saw an opportunity to use video-based online training to improve learning outcomes.

Working with well-known Australasian businesses over the last 12 years, she and her team have gained huge insights into developing video-based e-learning that works and produces tangible results for the learner and the business they work for.

She has a passion for using training to allow people to be successful and reach their full potential and has developed one of few platforms that have an integrated Coaching functionality. ‘Our vision is to unlock the potential in people through training that changes behaviour’.

We think that coaching is underutilised in online learning and see practice and coaching as powerful tools in learning and increasing ROI.

From unorthodox beginnings in Economics and Exercise Physiology, Anya has worked in Learning and Development and HR for the last 25 years. She has a passion for new solutions that engage and deliver real change.
